Dance at le Moulin de la Galette (1876) – French impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who died 03/12/1919
Renoir painted two versions of this picture. The larger one is in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and the smaller one (78 x 114 cm) is believed to be in the hands of a Swiss collector. It was sold at auction for $143.9 million in 1990, and as of 2013 it is sixth (when adjusted for the consumer price index) on the list of most expensive paintings ever sold.
